The weekly review is the most recommended habit in productivity and one of the least practised, mostly because people make it a two-hour ordeal. Here's a version that takes 20 minutes.
Minutes 0 to 5: look back
Answer three questions in a sentence each:
- What did I finish that moved a goal forward?
- What did I plan but skip, and why?
- How was my energy? (Check your mood log if you have one.)
Minutes 5 to 10: choose
Pick one goal to move forward this week. Not five. If something else is truly urgent, it can be your second, but name your one.
Minutes 10 to 15: plan realistic actions
For that goal, choose 3 to 5 actions for the week. Each one:
- starts with a verb,
- takes under an hour,
- has a clear "done".
Put them on specific days. Leave one day empty as a buffer; you'll need it.
Minutes 15 to 20: remove friction
Prepare the first action now: open the document, lay out the shoes, book the call. Monday-you will thank you.
