The #1 productivity app in the world for getting goals done

Turn any goal into the next right action.

ActionOS converts ambitious goals into clear daily actions, focused sessions, structured paths, and accountability that actually means something.

A vague goal

"Launch my business"

Too big to start. Easy to avoid.

Goals become paths. Paths become actions.

ActionOS is the execution layer between intention and achievement.

01

Define a meaningful outcome

Start with a real result you want — not an empty task list.

02

Get a structured path

ActionOS turns the goal into milestones and small, executable actions.

03

See only the next actions

One primary action, up to two alternatives. No overwhelming list.

04

Work in Plan, Focus, or Recover

Plan the path, focus on one action, or keep momentum on low-energy days.

05

Adapt when life changes

Fall behind and the plan shrinks or reschedules — it doesn't just turn red.

06

Add guidance or commitment

Follow an ActionOS Original or add real accountability when you need it.

Plan Mode

Review the whole path, rearrange actions, detect unrealistic weeks.

Focus Mode

One action, a clear definition of done, an optional timer. Nothing else.

Recover Mode

A five-minute version, a prep action, or a rescue plan. Progress is still progress.

Why a goal execution app, not another to-do list

Most productivity apps optimize for the feeling of organization. ActionOS optimizes for whether you actually did the thing.

vs. to-do lists

A checklist app never checks whether "work on the project" is actually startable. ActionOS rejects vague actions and rewrites them into something you can begin in the next five minutes.

vs. streak & habit trackers

A streak measures whether you showed up, not whether the goal is closer. Momentum Score measures real progress — milestones, consistency, and honest replanning — not attendance.

Why most goal apps fail →

vs. course platforms

A course gives you information and hopes you apply it. ActionOS Originals turn a proven process into milestones and actions you actually complete, measured by completion, not video watched.

The evidence

Every part of this is here for a reason

ActionOS isn't a set of productivity opinions. Each mechanism below exists because decades of research in behavioural science point the same way — and each one names its source so you can go and read it yourself.

Why actions get a verb, an object and a time

Specifying exactly when, where and how roughly doubles follow-through.

A meta-analysis of 94 independent studies found that turning an intention into a concrete “if-then” plan — naming the specific situation and the specific action — had a medium-to-large effect on actually achieving the goal (d = .65). ActionOS refuses to store “work on my business” for this reason: an action needs a verb, a concrete object, a time estimate and a visible definition of done before it counts.

Gollwitzer & Sheeran, Advances in Experimental Social Psychology 38 (2006)

Why we ask for an outcome, not a wish

Specific, demanding goals beat “do your best” — consistently, across 35 years of studies.

Goal-setting theory, built from hundreds of studies across laboratory and field settings, finds that specific and difficult goals produce higher performance than vague encouragement, provided the person is committed and has feedback on progress. That is the whole shape of a path in ActionOS: one specific outcome, a way to measure it, and feedback every week.

Locke & Latham, American Psychologist 57(9) (2002)

Why your progress is always visible

Monitoring progress measurably improves goal attainment — and more so when someone else can see it.

A meta-analysis of 138 studies covering 19,951 participants found that prompting people to monitor their goal progress had a significant positive effect on attainment, and that the effect was larger when progress was physically recorded or reported publicly. Momentum, your stats page and the wins wall are three versions of that same finding.

Harkin et al., Psychological Bulletin 142(2) (2016)

Why actions are small

Of everything that lifts motivation at work, the biggest single factor is making visible progress.

An analysis of nearly 12,000 daily diary entries from 238 people working on real projects found that the events which most reliably improved motivation and emotion were small, concrete wins — ahead of recognition, incentives or clear goals. ActionOS caps actions at 45 minutes and keeps splitting them because a finished small thing beats an unfinished big one.

Amabile & Kramer, The Progress Principle (Harvard Business Review Press, 2011)

Why Focus Mode shows one action

Switching tasks leaves part of your attention behind on the last one.

Experimental work on “attention residue” shows that when people move between tasks — especially away from an unfinished one — cognitive resources stay stuck on the previous task and performance on the new one suffers. Focus Mode removes the list, the other goals and the navigation on purpose: one action, its definition of done, and a timer.

Why Recover Mode doesn’t shame you

Forgiving yourself for falling behind predicts less procrastination next time, not more.

In a study of 119 students tracked across two examination periods, those who forgave themselves after procrastinating before the first exam procrastinated less before the second. Self-criticism did not help. This is why a missed day in ActionOS offers a five-minute version of your next action instead of a red streak counter resetting to zero.

Wohl, Pychyl & Bennett, Personality and Individual Differences 48(7) (2010)

These studies describe average effects measured across groups of people. They are the reason ActionOS is built the way it is — they are not a prediction about your goal, and nothing here is a guarantee of a result. Effect sizes vary by domain, and some of this literature is still actively debated.

Frequently asked questions

What is ActionOS?
ActionOS is a goal execution operating system — a productivity app that converts a goal you type into a structured path of small, immediately-startable actions, using AI to fill in the concrete steps. It's built for people who already know what they want but struggle to turn it into consistent daily action, not for people who just want a place to store a task list.
How is ActionOS different from a to-do list app?
A to-do list stores whatever you type and never checks whether it's actually startable. ActionOS rejects vague entries like "work on my business" and rewrites them into a concrete action with a verb, a time estimate, and a clear definition of done — then always shows you the next right action instead of an overwhelming list. See the full comparison in our guide on goal paths vs. to-do lists.
Does ActionOS use AI to plan my goals?
Yes — when you enter a goal, ActionOS generates a structured path (milestones and actions) tailored to your Action Profile (available time, energy pattern, and accountability preference). Free includes one AI-generated path per month; Pro includes unlimited AI-generated paths.
Is ActionOS free to use?
Yes. The Free plan includes Plan, Focus, and Recover modes, one AI-generated path per month, unlimited manually-created actions, adaptive replanning, and your full history and data export — no credit card required. Pro and Elite add unlimited AI paths, ActionOS Originals, and an accountability partner who can message you. See full pricing.
What is Focus Mode?
Focus Mode is a distraction-free timer for exactly one action: its title, its definition of done, an optional countdown, and an optional background sound (rain, river, night, ocean, or white noise). Nothing else competes for your attention while it's running.
Can I follow a goal path created by someone else?
Yes — ActionOS Originals are complete, ready-to-follow paths ActionOS writes and owns directly, built from a real proven process rather than generated by AI. Browsing them is available on every plan; enrolling in one requires Pro or above.
What happens if I fall behind on my plan?
ActionOS doesn't just mark a missed action red. Adaptive replanning asks what actually changed and proposes a smaller or rescheduled version of your upcoming plan, and Recover Mode offers a five-minute version of your next action on low-energy days. Reduced progress still counts toward your Momentum Score.

One clear action is enough for now.
